R-Type/Activision (YS37, 9)
An unmissable shoot 'em up. As addictive as Angel Delight and twice as butterscotchy. As faithful a conversion as one could hope for. It's a corker.
R-Type C (YS51, 98)
As part of the The Biz compilation.
R-Type arcade screenshots A
RBI 2/Domark (YS66, 82)
Good representation of baseball, and a lot of fun. Don't control as much of it as you should though.
Race Against Time, The/Codemasters Plus (YS31, 8)
A more than competent arcade adventure with varied backdrops - buy it and do some good while you play.
Raid Over Moscow C (YS38, UNR)
As part of the History In The Making compilation.
Raiders Of The Lost Ring/Arcade Systems (YS3, 8)
Rainbow Islands/Ocean (YS52, 94)
If you hate cute platform games you'll loathe it, but if you like them you'll think it's the best game ever played (or as near as dammit).
Rainbow Islands C (YS66, 95)
As part of the Power Up compilation.
Rainbow Islands arcade screenshots A
Rally Driver C (YS63, UNR)
As part of the 4-Most Sports compilation.
Rambo/Ocean (YS3, 8)
Rambo III/Ocean (YS37, 8)
A three part shoot 'em up with loads to do, nice graphics and the emphasis on difficulty. Shame about the politics.
Rampage/Activision (YS27, 6)
Smash everything in sight but don't expect too much of a smash from the thankless task of clearing the inner cities!
Rampage arcade screenshots A
Ramparts/Go! (YS30, 5)
Obvious counterfeit of Rampage, with knights instead of movie monsters. Disappointing.
Rana Rama/Hewson (YS16, 9)
Rana Rama C (YS37, 6)
As part of the 10 Great Games III compilation.
Rana Rama C (YS44, 87)
As part of the Heatwave compilation.
Rana Rama/Players r (YS63, 78)
Rasputin/Firebird (YS1, 9)
Rastan/Imagine (YS30, 9)
Swipe! Sclrupsch! A bit gory, but nonetheless a great game. Just watch out for flying limbs!
Rastan arcade screenshots A
Rasterscan/Mastertronic (YS18, 8)
Raven, The/8th Day (YS28, 8)
Rays C (YS19, UNR)
As part of the Six-In-One compilation.
Real Ghostbusters, The/Activision (YS42, 62)
Poor shoot 'em up that looks good in some places but plays bad in most.
Realm, The/The Cult (YS34, 7)
Rebel/Virgin (YS22, 7)
A cleverly plotted arcade adventure with a bit of strategy and a lot of terrific graphics.
Rebel Planet/US Gold (YS9, 7)
Rebel Star/Firebird (YS9, 7)
Reckless Rufus/Alternative (YS82, 90)
Tip-top puzzle game with splendid graphics. Dead simple and packed with playability. Hurrah!
Red Box Control System/General Information Systems (YS13, UNR)
Red Door C (YS19, UNR)
As part of the Six-In-One compilation.
Red Heat/Ocean (YS43, 85)
Jaw-socking stuff.Quirky and clear with a lot of variety but only a half-sized 'envelope' screen.
Red LED/Starlight (YS24, 8)
Cracking Spindizzy/Gyroscope type arcade puzzler. Very addictive and easy to play, but beware, it's no push-over to complete.
Red Scorpion/Quicksilva (YS19, 7)
Renegade/Imagine (YS22, 9)
Renegade III/Imagine (YS41, 79)
The standard beat 'em up formula gets a bizarre fantasy twist - and it works!
Renegade arcade screenshots A
Rentakill Rita/Mastertronic (YS26, 8)
Chronically derivative but highly enjoyable Head Over Heels clone that'll keep addicts happy for many a long night.
Repton Mania/Superior (YS42, 88)
Two games in one: one a serviceable Boulderdash clone (with giant sprites), the other a quantum leap ahead, the best multi-screen arcade adventure we've seen for ages.Triffo.
Rescue From Atlantis/Summit (YS78, 63)
Fairly good. Quite Hard. Um, okay I suppose.
Rescue On Fractalus/Activision (YS10, 7)
Retarded Creatures And Caverns/Zenobi (YS45, 90)
Return Of The Jedi/Domark (YS37, 7)
Third of the Star Wars games, and a total style departure from the previous two. Not a bad little diagonally scrolling avoid 'em up, but then not a particularly brilliant one.
Return Of The Jedi C (YS46, 74)
As part of the Star Wars Trilogy compilation.
Return Of The Jedi arcade screenshots A
Return Of The Witch Lord - Hero Quest Expansion Kit/Gremlin (YS70, 86)
A definite must-buy for everyone who's already got Hero Quest. A barg!

Return To Eden C (YS15, UNR)
As part of the Silicon Dreams compilation.
Revolution/Vortex (YS11, 9)
Rex/Martech (YS36, 9)
This has to be the best shoot'em up since Cybernoid. I love it to death.
Rick Dangerous/Firebird (YS43, 78)
A trekkin' good arcade adventure. Simple but tricky, with that vital just-one-more-go element.
Rick Dangerous C (YS72, 79)
As part of the Six Appeal compilation.
Rick Dangerous II/MicroStyle P (YS57, PRE)
Rick Dangerous II/MicroStyle (YS59, 90)
More explore-and-collect frolics, but a whole lot better than the original.
Riding The Rapids/Players (YS26, 5)
Insipid canoe slalom simulator. Extremely damp gameplay, only saved by the addition of an easy-to-use course editor package.
Rigel's Revenge/Mastertronic (YS25, 8)
Ring Wars/Cascade (YS38, 8)
Unoriginal plot, but technically superb wired frame graphics with action, lasers and planets to land on.
River Raid/Firebird r (YS22, 4)
Road Blasters/US Gold (YS34, 8)
A verdcant road racing game. It grows on you like a leech
Road Blasters arcade screenshots A
Road Race/Ocean (YS17, UNR)
Bog-standard driving game, with sound that would drive a monk into a hacking frenzy.
Road Runner/US Gold (YS22, 7)
A true enough conversion of the popular arcade game, with lots to recommend. Good clean cartoon fun.
Road Runner C (YS38, UNR)
As part of the History In The Making compilation.
Road Runner arcade screenshots A
Roadwars/Melbourne House (YS27, 7)
Drive, dodge and shoot game, with nice graphics but let down by a repetitive set of hazards.

Super! Pick up a copy and become a Merry Person riding through the glen.
Robin O' The Wood/Odin (YS2, 9)
Robin Of Sherlock/Silversoft (YS2, 7)
Robocop/Ocean P (YS36, PRE)
Robocop/Ocean (YS39, 8)
Playable, efficient but uninspired shooty thing based on everyone's favourite gorefeast. Not really up to the standards of Batman II or Oppy Wolf.
Robocop C (YS60, 85)
As part of the Hollywood Collection compilation.
Robocop II/Ocean (YS60, 93)
Well programmed and well thought-out, great-looking and infinitely playable. Absolutely brill. Go buy!
Robocop III/Ocean (YS76, 86)
Monochrome, jump-about-a-lot and kill people thang that's plenty of fun.
Robocop arcade screenshots A
Robot Messiah/Alphabatim (YS1, 9)
Roboto/BugByte (YS5, 8)
Robozone/ImageWorks (YS70, 72)
Big, tough, but not very colourful game, which'll get true arcade-blaster fans hooked.
Rocco C (YS37, 7)
As part of the 10 Great Games III compilation.
Rock 'n' Roll/Rainbow Arts (YS50, 74)
Persevere with the unglossy look and there's lots here to do and see, even though it is in yellow.
Rock Star Ate My Hamster/Codemasters (YS42, 35)
Hilariously funny? Well perhaps, but not quite in the way they intended. Please don't make me load it again!
Rockford/MAD X (YS29, 8)
Boulder Dash clone with plenty of challenge, plus the very welcome inclusion of Rockman on the "B" side for free. Get it!
Rockman/Mastertronic (YS2, 8)
Rodland/Storm (YS73, 95)
Brilliant, playable, cuddly and thoroughly addictive platform game.
Rodland arcade screenshots A
Rogue Trooper/Piranha (YS13, 7)

Room 10/CRL (YS12, 9)
Rothmans Football Quiz/Cassell (YS1, 7)
Round The Bend/Zeppelin (YS73, 74)
Way out wacky fun with people on telly you've never seen. Well, I've never seen them and I'm the reviewer. So there.
Roy Of The Rovers/Gremlin (YS37, 7)
Neat variation on the football game which really captures the atmosphere of the comic strip. Only the actual football bit lets it down!
Rubicon/BugByte (YS21, 5)
Dullish platform variant that's rather like Dan Dare without the Dare. Instructions useful only to clairvoyants.
Ruff And Ready C (YS74, 40)
As part of the The Hanna-Barbera Cartoon Character Collection compilation.
Rugby Boss C (YS75, 70)
As part of the 4-Most Balls, Boots And Brains compilation.

As part of the 4-Most Sports compilation.
Run The Gauntlet/Imagine (YS40, 7)
Multi-event racing, boat driving and assault-course game from the TV show of the same name. Not particularly well implemented, but quite good fun despite it. Slap on the wrist for Imagine - it could have been a lot better.
Runestone/Firebird (YS1, UNR)
Running Man, The/Grandslam (YS42, 90)
Movie licence that makes a perfect computer game. Frenetic and visually great kick and shoot 'em up with the occasional need for quick logic under pressure. Sterling stuff!
Running Man, The C (YS57, 79)
As part of the Heroes compilation.
Rygar/US Gold (YS25, 8)
Fair-ish arcade conversion but an absolute cracker of a game in its own right.
