3D Pool/Firebird (YS43, 81)Impressive simulation, which might lose appeal over time. Captain Blood/Exxos (YS41, 68) Curious game, proving difficult to get to grips with, but which might benefit from perseverence. Captain Fizz Meets The Blaster-trons/Psyclapse (YS44, 78) A fun Gauntlet clone, with some original extra elements which make it really playable. A good start from Psyclapse. Crazy Cars/Titus (YS30, 5) Run of the mill racing game adding nothing new to the genre. Deep, The/US Gold (YS39, 3) A dull, tedious game from US Gold, which deserves to sink without trace. Double Dragon II/Melbourne House (YS49, 77) A snazzy conversion of a fairly average coin-op. Great fun at first, but probably not all that long-lasting. Eliminator/Hewson (YS41, 90) Hewson maintains its high standards with this rootin', tootin', killin', maimin', shoot 'em up. Not to be missed by arcadey types. Exploding Fist +/Firebird (YS38, 7) Rehash of the original with two opponents to fight this time, but ultimately not worthy of its predecessor. Gold Silver And Bronze/Epyx (YS35, 8) Fiddly sports package more dependent on good timing than joystick waggling, which works on some events, but not on others. Guerilla War/Imagine (YS37, 8) A good ol' romping blasterama through tropical forests, let down slightly by awkward control. Gutz/Special FX (YS32, 7) Competent kill, grab and map game which should keep you burying around your innards for a while. H.A.T.E./Gremlin (YS42, 90) Mega shoot 'em up from Gremlin. Nothing incredibly imaginative, but what's there is excellently programmed and brilliantly executed. Heatwave/Hewson (YS44, 90) Six of the best from Hewson. Fun-packed variety and unbeatable value. Human Killing Machine/US Gold (YS40, 7) Not US Gold's greatest moment, but a creditable attempt to update the beat 'em up for the modern market. Should provide hours of fun for all you beat 'em up enthusiasts out there. Marauder/Hewson (YS33, 8) Well implemented and visually attractive vertically scrolling shoot-em-up, but nothing new. Mini-Putt/Accolade (YS36, 5) Unspectacular view from above, hit ball and watch it bounce around type game, slightly redeemed by a two player mode. Peter Beardsley's International Football/Grandslam (YS35, 3) Grandslam deserve a red card for this load of (foot)balls. Professional BMX Simulator/Codemasters Plus (YS35, 8) Excellent value for money simulation from Code Masters, well presented with fabby tunes. Rex/Martech (YS36, 9) This has to be the best shoot'em up since Cybernoid. I love it to death. Soldier Of Light/Ace (YS31, 4) A disappointing coin-op conversion from The Edge. Technocop/Gremlin (YS38, 8) Suprisingly addictive mix of racing simulation and scrolling shoot 'em up, both well programmed and presented. A welcome return to form for Gremlin. Thunder Blade/US Gold (YS38, 9) Brilliant scrolling and graphics combine to make an excellent shoot 'em up and faithful conversion from the coin-op. Tiger Road/Go! (YS37, 6) Routine horizontal scrolling basher and jumper, nothing new but pretty graphics. Train: Escape To Normandy, The/Accolade (YS34, 7) Naff shoot 'em up sections, but the train driving simulation and atmosphere more than makes up for them. Rage Hard! (YS52) Following fast on the heels of last month's SAM Coupe review, here comes the SAM disk drive and DOS; Sean Kelly gets out his trusty screwdriver and has a good poke. |
